This mini excavator loan calculator estimates the monthly payment and total cost, including the down payment, of financing a machine from its price, down payment, interest rate and term. Ambercroft Business Capital, a small-business funding broker in Lafayette, Indiana, offers it to Tippecanoe County contractors as a math check only; it is neither an offer nor a prediction of terms.
What to enter
- Price: the quoted price of the mini excavator, with any attachments you are buying with it.
- Down payment: the cash or trade-in you are putting in.
- Interest rate: the annual rate on an offer, or a figure you want to test.
- Term: the number of monthly payments.
The calculator finances the price minus the down payment and shows the monthly payment, the total interest, and the total cost, which adds all payments to the down payment.
Checking the arithmetic
To test the method only, take a hypothetical $48,000 machine with $8,000 down, a 0 percent rate and 40 months. The financed amount is $40,000, each payment is $1,000, and the total cost is $48,000. Any positive rate raises both the payment and the total. Treat the result as a check on the math, nothing more.
What to add by hand
- Attachments bought later. A thumb, a breaker or extra buckets bought separately are not in the result; price them on their own.
- Tax, freight and delivery. If they will be financed, add them to the price before entering it.
- Fees. Documentation or origination fees paid at closing are not included; add them to the total cost.
- A balloon or buyout. If an offer ends with a lump sum, add it to the total cost.
- A lease. Multiply the lease payment by the number of payments, add any purchase price at the end, and compare that with a loan's total cost.
The calculator assumes equal monthly payments. Offers with skipped payments, weekly debits or a step-up schedule will differ, and the calculator does not estimate how much work a machine will earn.
Why contractors here price compact machines
Of Tippecanoe County's 322 construction employers in 2023, 209 were specialty trades and 188 had a staff of one to four (U.S. Census Bureau, County Business Patterns 2023). Permits for 3,979 new housing units were issued in 2025 (U.S. Census Bureau, Building Permits Survey). For a small crew, a compact excavator bought for cash can leave too little for payroll; equipment financing spreads the cost over the machine's working life. Stock rather than machines? Inventory financing works differently.
Illustrative arithmetic only. Actual pricing is set by a lending partner, not by this page.
